Stack the Odds for Success in Your Favor in 2019

If you’re a leader or business owner, who'd like to Stack the odds for success in your favor in 2019, buckle up!  Your journey is likely filled with financial, emotional, and even physical challenges.

Virtually every aspect of your life is at risk: your material comforts, your future security, your self-esteem, your health, and your relationships.

Yet we choose it (or in cases like mine, it chooses us!) despite the risks, knowing the odds are stacked against our success.

Since none of us are looking to fail, we need to ask ourselves what we’re doing to stack the odds in our favor.

Based on my journey as a Strengths-based Leadership Coach and business owner, when building a business or leading others to intentional outcomes, I’ve found 3 basic, fail-proof pillars of success that – when couple with the ONE THING that is sure to increase your ROI – can turn the odds in your favor, making success all but inevitable.

Find a Coach (not just a mentor)

Mentors are great (and I hope you have one) but you NEED a coach. Of course, you’re the foremost expert on your business, but the constant demands of running a business or a team can muddy the waters, making it easy for you to lose perspective. We all need at least one person who is willing to offer ideas, help us think through business strategies, and hold us accountable for following through on smart goals. We all need a C-O-A-C-H.

No course, workshop or degree program can match the value of insights from someone who has “failed” and picked themselves back up. Learn from them. What were their mistakes? What would they do differently? What resources do they rely on today for their success?

Specifically seek out coaches whose talents and ways of thinking are different from yours. The lens through which they naturally see life (and business) will offer a new perspective.

However, a coach needs to be well-versed and capable of helping you find your own answers - not give you advice or mentorship. There is a difference.

Coaches will help you see what you can’t see.

Build Resilience

Building resilience is essential to achieving success - you must be able to recover from the challenges along your journey. Here are some simple ways to build resiliency:

Self-care- Get *good* sleep, drink plenty of water, take time for hobbies

Mindfulness - Use meditation techniques to reset your mind body connection

Movement - Exercise regularly to trigger resilience-building physical and chemical reactions

Build an INTENTIONAL Community

Find your tribe. Build a community of people who will help you become the best version of yourself.

A great community will help foster --

  • Accountability

  • Support

  • Peer learning

Belonging to an engaged, supportive community can help you stay on track because you’ll always have someone to nudge you in the right direction when you get sidelined by grief, stress, and overwhelm.

** Looking for your community? Join us monthly at the Strengths-based Leadership Meetup in Charlotte, NC.

We can all adopt these three basic requirements for success and tip the odds in our favor in 2019! All we need to do is start - start small, start today, and stay committed.
